Llandudno Weekend 2012

Wigan Ramblers arrived at Llandudno for their Spring week-end holiday on Friday 13th.  Unlucky for some but not for us as John had yet again arranged for a week-end of fine weather. He must have a direct line to the Weather gods!  On Saturday a group of 15 met (eventually) on West Parade to start a 5.25 mile walk

First of all we passed the General Hospital and Maesdu Golf club and then on up to a former watch tower, where the views all round were fantastic as we enjoyed a lunch break.

We dropped down to Llanrhos and past Maes Dalau caravan park towards the ruins of Deganwy castle, set on two small hills. We admired many Spring flowers before reaching Deganwy, to cross the railway and to follow the Wales Coastal Path, enjoying fine views across the estuary to Conwy Mountain.

On Sunday we were again blessed with a fine Spring morning as a select group of 9 set off towards the Little Orme. We passed Peter’s group as they waited for the bus to Old Colwyn. We chose not to climb the Orme but followed a very flowery path to Penrhyn-side. The next part of the route proved to be a dead end but we soon found the way up onto an area covered by beautiful gorse bushes. We crossed through woodland and out onto a small limestone hill to enjoy views across Llandudno Bay to the Great Orme.

As we failed to find the next bit of the route we ”explored” for a while, enjoying views over Colwyn Bay, until we reached Penrhyn-side.

We climbed up through the woods for a well earned lunch stop before dropping down into the village to pass 4 chapels and 2 pubs. The lane back to the County Hotel passed Bodafon Hall Farm, where we saw llamas, goats, deer, etc. but no welsh dragons.
After another very successful and enjoyable week-end away we all thanked John for all his hard work, as we set off for our various destinations.
