Skegness 2019

Our 2019 long weekend away was from 26th to 29th April, when we faced the tail end of Storm Hannah.  In spite of the weather we all enjoyed our time at the Royal Hotel, Skegness.

On the Saturday David Dalton took a group of 16 on a bus trip to Hogsthorpe and they returned via Anderby Creek on a 10.5 mile coastal walk to Skegness.  Phil Bullen led a 7.5 mile walk but the party of 11 had to divert from the planned route to Gibraltar Point before finding their way back to the hotel.  Frank Atherton’s party of 13 set off North on a 5.5 mile King George V walk.  However after lunch they failed to find their way back and after a welcome break at a large caravan site some caught the bus back and others had a long trek back into Skegness.  Last year at Criccieth we endured the Beast from the East and this year we had Storm Hannah (the Beast from the West).

On Sunday the majority chose a coach trip to the city of Lincoln, where they visited the cathedral and the castle, before descending the steep hill into the city centre and the waterfront.

David and Phil and 12 others chose to find their way to Gibraltar Point and they completed an enjoyable 7.5 mile ramble.

After dinner we were royally entertained by a variety of our own talented acts and by John, the vocalist.

We all agreed that the weekend had again been a success and that we had enjoyed our trip to Skegness, thanks to all those who had contributed in any way.
