Penkridge 2015 - By Phil Bullen

On Sunday Phil Bullen and John Pimblett led an 8 mile circular walk from Milford Common.

Starting with a section of Cannock Chase we eventually joined the Trent and Mersey canal at Little Haywood, a walk along the canal brought us to the grounds of Shugborough Hall which we entered over the Essex bridge at Great Haywood.

Reputed to be the longest remaining pack horse bridge in England, it was built by the Earl of Essex in the 16th century and originally had 40 arches,it is now reduced to 14.  It is also the route of the Staffordshire Way over the river Trent.

This long distance path gave us a panoramic view of Shugborough Hall which we passed on our return to Milford.
